Description: The Terra Sancta College is distinguished among the other schools in the region by its great history of more than five centuries and to be more specific since the beginning of the 16th century. It’s the first school in Bethlehem, thanks to the order of the Franciscan Brothers, who started their educational activities in the town of Bethlehem with two goals in mind; teaching the children the principles of Christianity and the foreign languages, such as English and Italian, giving them the chance to work and make their living depending on the pilgrims visiting the land of our lord Jesus Christ. The first note about the school ever mentioned was found in a Slavic pilgrim’s writings. He came to Bethlehem in 1598 for pilgrimage and described the “school of Bethlehem” as an organized school and since setting up and organizing a school take some time, therefore it is believed that the school started not a short time before 1598 and might go back to the beginning of the 16th century.
